The Halloween with Empty Streets

The Halloween with Empty Streets

A story my Michael J. Herman Inspired by Dan coats

There were no decorations lining the houses.

There were no cheeses for the neighborhood mouses.

There was no pomp and excitement in the air.

The funnest day of the year seemed no one cared.

From one block to the next there were no people.

And no decorations hung from the church steeple.

A wicked thing, a horrid mess

Had taken Halloween and now threatened Christmas.

Children stayed indoors, and there were no parties to play.

For the Goblin Governor had ordered a home stay.

And block after block,

All that could be seen

Was this year there would be no Halloween.

Candy piled up at the local store

And makeup went on discount

But who needed any more?

The scariest of futures hung in suspence

That there would be no more holidays under Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

But fear not and rub your ouchies.

Because the good news is from Dr. Fauci.
He said if we’re good and wear our masks,

If we wash our hands and do what is asked

If we forego Halloween and New Year’s Eve

Maybe the virus that emptied our streets will finally leave?

So do your part if you’re an adult or even a Tween,

And skip this year’s Halloween.
